In the doghouse

Meaning:

If we are in the doghouse, someone is angry with us because we did something to upset them. We are usually in the doghouse with somebody until they are no longer angry with us. This is commonly used between married couples.

Example sentences:

1. I'm in the doghouse.
2. He's in the doghouse.
3. I can't do that or else I'll be in the doghouse with my wife.

Example dialogue:

Two friends are talking about one friend's wife.

A: I hear your wife is angry with you.
B: She sure is.
A: Why is that? Is it because you came home late last night.
B: Yes. I'll be in the doghouse for the next week.

When was the last time you were in the doghouse? Who was it with?
