Heart of stone

Meaning:

We use this one to describe someone who we think is very mean and very cruel. Someone who has a heart of stone does not care for people. They probably have no feelings about people at all. We usually use this with the verb "to have".

Example sentences:

1. He really has a heart of stone.
2. The murderer must have a heart of stone.
3. How can he have such a heart of stone?

Example dialogue:

Two friends are talking about somebody they don't like.

A: Why is that guy always so cruel to others?
B: I don't know. I can't explain it.
A: It's like he has a heart of stone.
B: Yeah, I understand what you mean.
