Chip off the old block

Meaning

If we say that someone is a chip of the old block, we mean that this person looks or acts a lot like his/her mother or father. We use this mainly when we want to say that someone's personality is similar to the personality of his/her mother or father.

Example sentences:

1. He's a chip off the old block.
2. I'm a chip off the old block.
3. She's a chip off the old block, isn't she?

Example dialogue:

A: Why do you have to be so stubborn?
B: I don't know. That's just the way I am.
A: You're just like your father.
B: I guess I'm just a chip off the old block, aren't I?
